How Our Abatement Process Works

Every abatement project follows a strict, regulated process — here's what to expect from start to finish:

Step 1 — Pre-Abatement Inspection & Notification

Before any work begins, a certified inspector confirms the materials to be removed and their extent. Georgia Environmental submits the required project notification to Georgia EPD at least 10 business days prior to abatement — a legal requirement for all regulated projects.

Step 2 — Site Preparation & Containment

The work area is sealed off using heavy-duty plastic sheeting and negative air pressure machines equipped with HEPA filtration. This creates a contained environment that prevents fibers from escaping into the rest of the building or outside air.

Step 3 — Safe Removal

Our state certified workers — in full personal protective equipment including respirators and disposable suits — carefully remove asbestos-containing materials using EPA-approved wet methods to suppress fiber release during the removal process.

Step 4 — Packaging & Disposal

All removed materials are wetted, double-bagged in labeled asbestos waste bags, and transported to a licensed disposal facility in accordance with Georgia EPD and EPA requirements. A Waste Shipment Record is generated for your documentation.

Step 5 — Air Clearance Testing

After removal and cleanup, air clearance testing is performed to confirm that fiber levels meet regulatory standards before containment is removed and the area is released for re-occupancy or continued construction.

Step 6 — Final Documentation

You receive a complete abatement report including project notifications, waste shipment records, air clearance results, and disposal documentation — everything required for permits, real estate closings, insurance, and regulatory compliance.
